The last year’s events were far from fun for your social life. However, this year is shaping up to be much more “normal,” meaning people are looking forward to getting back to cookouts, pool parties, and hosting watch parties for big sporting events. If you want your home to be a destination for these gatherings, you’ll need to make sure you’ve got the outdoor seating ready to accommodate it.
After all, many people are still getting comfortable with the idea of visiting with friends without any masks on. Considering how safe it is to gather outside, though, more people might be willing to visit for backyard get-togethers. Let’s take a look at a few ways you can make your outdoor social spaces that much more welcoming.
If you’ve got a porch, you’ve got a space for your friends to gather. However, bugs and weather can make a standard porch less than fun to gather on. That’s why so many people opt to have their porches screened in and covered. That way, you’re not only covered in case of rain, but it’s that much harder for insects to ruin your picnic by flying at your food!
While some would argue that this defeats the purpose of outdoor seating, others would say that the sunshine and wind still passing through the screen make such finished porches the best of both worlds. You get the warmth of the sun with the comfort of an indoor space.
You definitely want some sturdy furniture to stay outdoors. The elements can be rough on normal indoor furniture, so opt for something made of sterner stuff. Rust-resistant metal furniture is preferred by some homeowners thanks to its durability. Others favor woven plastic that emulates wicker, as it’s both stylish and weather-resistant.
For a more old-school appearance, you could even opt for traditional wooden furniture and keep some cushions indoors to bring out to cover the hard surface. Whatever you go with, just make sure it’s able to withstand the sunshine and rain!
If you don’t want to go through the trouble of covering your patio or porch, you could instead opt for some large parasols or umbrellas. Outdoor-rated umbrellas that you can deploy in case of heavy rain or direct sunlight can take an outdoor seating area from “uncomfortable” to “great summer hangout spot”! Hopefully, these tips help you to get your outdoor space ready for summer.
