Armie Hammer has dropped out of a forthcoming TV show for Paramount+, just a few weeks after dropping from the upcoming Jennifer Lopez action-comedy Shotgun Wedding.
His exits from both projects come amid controversy surrounding claims that Hammer is a cannibal. No, really.
Who had cannibal actors on their 2020/2021 COVID-19 bingo cards? Anyone?
Hammer had been cast as the lead in The Offer, a new Paramount+ series. The 10-part series chronicles the making of The Godfather from producer Al Ruddy’s point of view. No word yet on who might step up to take his place.
As for Lionsgate’s Shotgun Wedding, Hammer was set to star opposite Jennifer Lopez before he bowed out. I hear Josh Duhamel is in talks to take his spot.
It’s all after some private messages he allegedly sent started circulating online.
The controversy started when an anonymous social media account leaked graphic DMs purportedly sent from Hammer’s Instagram. According to the user, she had been having an affair with the actor.
It’s 2021 and we’re not really surprised by dirty talk and sexting these days, but these were… different. The messages in question included disturbing details about Hammer’s alleged sexual fantasies. We’re talking cannibalism and the desire to inflict pain on his partners. Some of them were pretty dark, to say the very least.
So far (and as expected), Hammer has denied everything.
“I’m not responding to these bullsh*t claims but in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for 4 months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic,” Hammer said in a statement to Variety. “Lionsgate is supporting me in this, and I’m grateful to them for that.”
At the same time, some of his exes have come out to say they’ve experienced similar exchanges with the actor. And while the media and the public have put a lot of focus on his DMed fetishes — including drinking blood or cutting off toes (???) — we should probably be paying attention to his exes that have come forward. Because what they’re detailing is legit disturbing.
Some of the allegations point toward abuse, disregard for consent, and violation of boundaries. One woman claims he carved an “A” into her skin. Oh, and more instances of cannibalism, including telling two different women he wanted to remove their ribs so he could barbeque and eat them.
In a strange twist of events, it seems that Hammer’s estranged wife, Elizabeth Chambers, has finally broken her silence on the cannibal scandal. She filed for divorce over the summer, though it hasn’t been finalized yet.
Photos surfaced on Instagram of director Luca Guadagnino with stars Timothée Chalamet and Hammer, to announce Guadagnino and Chalamet’s new project — a movie about a cannibal. (Who would have seen that coming?)
Anyway, Chambers took the time to express her disbelief in the comments section. It’s the first time she has acknowledged her estranged husband’s scandal involving abuse and cannibal-like fetishes.
“No. Words.” she wrote.
I guess she’s not stoked about the cannibal love story movie?
