More than 200,000 people worldwide have been confirmed to be sick with the coronavirus COVID-19. Among those are some of our favorite celebrities, from actors to sports stars. Here is an updated list of famous people who have confirmed their coronavirus infection.
On March 11, Tom Hanks gave us a scare when he announced his coronavirus infection on social media. Both Hanks and his wife, Rita Wilson, tested positive for the virus and were quarantined in Australia.
They spent five days in the hospital and are waiting out their mandatory quarantine period in their rental home. Hanks was in Australia filming Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis Presley biopic.
Former “Bond Girl” Olga Kurylenko revealed that she had tested positive for the virus on Instagram, urging her followers to take care of themselves and take the outbreak seriously. Kurylenko starred opposite Daniel Craig in 2008’s “Quantum of Solace.”
On March 16, British actor Idris Elba posted a video on Twitter to confirm that he had come down with the coronavirus. Worryingly, Elba had no symptoms but decided to get tested because he had been in contact with someone who had the virus.
Utah Jazz player Rudy Gobert made the terrible judgment call to touch all the microphones at a press conference on the outbreak as a joke, mocking the idea that we needed to be safe and practice social distancing. Shortly afterward, Gobert tested positive for the virus. Several other Jazz players have since tested positive, and the entire NBA season has been suspended.
“Game of Thrones” fans were worried to learn that Kristofer Hivju, who played Tormund on the epic HBO series, had tested positive for COVID-19. He is currently self-isolating at home while suffering from mild symptoms of the virus.
Instagram influencer Arielle Charnas told her 1.3 million followers that she tested positive in a recent Instagram post. “I’m so happy my fever is gone but the body pain that I’m feeling today is unlike anything else. It feels like we’re all in a bad dream right now but I’m determined to bring back some normalcy to our lives.”
The first NBA player outside the Utah Jazz to test positive was Christian Wood, a forward for the Detroit Pistons. As recently as March 11, he was facing off against the Philadelphia 76ers on the court.
19-year-old singer Charlotte Lawrence is one of the youngest celebrities to confirm a coronavirus diagnosis. She encouraged her 790,000 followers to stay home and stay safe in a profanity-laden post on Instagram.
Although not a traditional celebrity, Prince Albert II of Monaco is one of the most prominent European Royals (and the son of movie star Grace Kelly). He announced the diagnosis on March 19, not long after the family’s annual Rose Ball was canceled.
Good news for fans of “Lost” actor Daniel Dae Kim! Although he tested positive for the virus, he announced that, “Today, even though I’m not 100 percent, I’m pretty close” to feeling better.
Brooklyn Nets player Kevin Durant announced his diagnosis on March 17. Since then three more of his teammates have also tested positive, making the Nets the second-hardest hit team in the NBA after the Utah Jazz.
