Without further ado, these are the 15 longest-running scripted TV shows of all time. We ranked our list based on the number of seasons, and we decided to leave out variety shows. Some of these shows are still on the air, so the rankings may change in the future.

15 – The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet

This sitcom clocked an incredible 435 episodes over 14 seasons. It ran from 1952 to 1965. Like #14 on the list, it was an adaptation of a radio program.

14 -The Jack Benny Program

The oldest series on the list, this comedy show was a TV adaptation of Jack Benny’s radio series. It ran from 1950 to 1965.

13 – Supernatural

The Winchesters have been saving people and hunting things for 15 long years. It’s set to end this year, however, and will rise to #12 on the list.

12 – Criminal Minds

The heir to CSI, Criminal Minds ran for 15 seasons before wrapping up just this year. The show survived the exit of multiple main cast members over the years.

11 – ER

Why doesn’t ER get the same amount of nostalgic love as other shows from the era? The doctor drama ran for 15 seasons on NBC before it ended in 2009.

10 – CSI: Crime Scene Investigation

Although it wasn’t the first procedural show (that honor likely goes to Law & Order), CSI cemented the genre on television. It ran for 15 seasons and 337 episodes.

9 – Grey’s Anatomy

It feels like Grey’s Anatomy has been on the air forever. For the last 16 years and 363 episodes, Meredith Grey has had her heart broken and her entire family brutally die in different ways. Fun!

8 – American Dad!

With two appearances on this list, it makes sense why Seth McFarlane has so much clout in Hollywood. His second animated comedy has been on the air since 2005!

Procedurals have a good chance of running longer than most scripted dramas or comedies. There are just so many different crimes to investigate. NCIS is still going after 17 seasons and 398, although several major cast members have left.

6 – Family Guy

Family Guy has been running since 1999 and shows no sign of stopping anytime soon. The show has aired 349 episodes since its premiere.

5 – Lassie

Wait, Lassie is the fifth longest-running show of all time?! The one with the pretty collie and Timmy who kept falling down a well? Apparently so! The show ran from 1954 to 1971, filming a total of 591 episodes.

4 – Law & Order

The original flavor of Law & Order filmed an impressive 20 seasons and 456 episodes before going off the air in 2010. Admit it, you can hear the theme song in your head right now!

3 – Gunsmoke

We’re headed back to 1955 for the premiere of Gunsmoke, the long-running western that ran for 20 seasons and 635 episodes. A lot of boomers grew up loving this show.

2 – Law & Order: Special Victims Unit

There’s a reason Law & Order: SVU seems to be airing a rerun somewhere every hour of the day. After 21 seasons (and 478 episodes), there’s a lot of shows to re-run.

1 – The Simpsons

Did you guess that this would be the winner? The Simpsons has been on the air continuously since 1989! With 684 episodes and counting, the OG animated family comedy shows no sign of slowing down.
