Vintage Toys With Major Value

Vintage Toys With Major Value

As kids, we never think about how much our toys cost. And we certainly don’t think about whether they might increase in value over time. The value of toys is how much fun they are to play with… right?

These childhood favorites are now worth big bucks online. Collectors are clamoring for these rare items and will pay even more if the toys are in good condition. You might have a literal fortune sitting in your closet, attic, or basement right now. While not every toy is worth money, if you’ve got an original Cabbage Patch doll or a Furby, then read on to find out what people are paying for them now.

Furby

If you grew up in the 90s, chances are good that you begged your parents for one of these toys. They were the must-have holiday gift item, with people rushing into toy stores to grab as many as they could get.

Looking at these poor creatures now, it’s hard to understand why we were so obsessed with them. They were always a bit creepy, especially when their batteries started to wind down. Even pre-loved Furbys like this one are still worth a decent amount of money. However, if you have an original doll in an unopened box, then the little owl-goblin could be worth over $900 on the open market.

Game Boy

Why would a classic Game Boy be worth way more than a brand-new Nintendo Switch? Two reasons: nostalgia and rarity. For folks who grew up playing the original handheld video game system, a Game Boy is a window to a happier, more innocent time.

Of course, it’s hard to find one in working condition these days. These devices were meant to be carried around and played with obsessively. That led to a lot of cracked screens, scuffed cases, and mysterious sticky substances on the keys. A like-new Game Boy in perfect condition can go for hundreds of dollars on eBay. Special edition versions have sold for $1,500, so start saving your loose change now!

Cabbage Patch Dolls

With their round eyes, chubby cheeks, and yarn hair, Cabbage Patch Dolls became a sensation in the 80s. They bridged the gap between realistic baby dolls and the classic Raggedy Ann style of doll. People went wild for them–and I don’t mean just kids. Adults collected these adorable little cherubs as well. Some of those collectors are now sitting on a gold mine.

As with most vintage toys, the value is dependent on the condition. A like-new Cabbage Patch Doll that never left its packaging could be worth big money. How big are we talking? Dolls have sold for thousands of dollars each on eBay. If you’ll forgive the vegetable pun, that’s a lot of lettuce.

‘Magic: The Gathering’ Cards

Unlike other toys on this list, Magic: The Gathering Cards are sought after by people who still play this trading card game today. The game was released in 1993 by Wizards of the Coast, the same company that makes Dungeons and Dragons. Players bought packs that could contain common, low-powered cards or highly sought-after rare cards to build their decks and compete with each other.

How much is a rare card worth today? Classic cards with moderately high value can sell for around $100 apiece to collectors. However, there are a couple of cards out there that go for much, much more. A Black Lotus or Astral Recall card could be worth upwards of $20,000! No, that isn’t a typo.
