So far, WandaVision has relied heavily on the classic sitcom format — but it has also given us small teases of the potential chaos that is about to come.
We’re only a few short days away from the next installment of WandaVision. Episode 4 will hit Disney+ on Friday, January 29. But what can we expect?
Supposedly, the next episode offers a big perspective shift.
Up until now, the series has started off on weird ground, at least for something within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Viewers have been introduced to the couple living a sitcom-worthy suburban life with no recall of their former lives as Avengers.
Instead of fast-paced action from the get-go, the show has taken a slow-burn storytelling route. It’s definitely a departure from what some Marvel fans have grown accustomed to seeing from MCU, and has led to at least some labeling the show as boring.

I mean, that super-hyped premiere didn’t feel like an MCU offering at all. (Look, I’m not complaining. I’m just pointing out the obvious, here.)
The first three episodes took on the classic sitcom stylings from the ‘50s, ‘60s, and ‘70s with shows like I Love Lucy, Bewitched, and The Brady Bunch used as inspiration. As Wanda and Vision’s life progresses, the latest episode saw the arrival of their twins, Billy and Tommy.
But obviously, it’s becoming increasingly clear that not everything in Westview can be taken at face value. There’s a darker story unraveling.
Each episode so far has dropped clues about how the idyllic suburban life isn’t actually what it seems. And Wanda is somehow controlling this world, but Vision is starting to realize something isn’t right.
However, episode 3 gave viewers their first glance at what the outside of Westview actually looks like, when Monica Rambeau — aka Geraldine — was pushed out of the pocket reality. We see Rambeau land in what looks like a military encampment, which may be a base for the intelligence agency SWORD.
And honestly, it raises more questions than it answers. We know that SWORD is somehow involved in the story, with Rambeau, Jimmy Woo, and Darcy Lewis all supposedly working for the agency now.
It makes sense that we will see a big shift with this week’s episode. As WandaVision reaches the midpoint of the nine-episode run, it’s time for Marvel to start giving more information about what’s really going on in the show.
Luckily for fans, lead actress Elizabeth Olsen herself revealed that the upcoming episode is going to be a major shift. While talking to Digital Spy, the actress seems to set up episode 4 as a significant chapter in the overarching story.
“I think the reason why they show the press the first episodes is because episode 4 is quite a shift,” Olsen said. “It’s a really fun perspective swap and I think a lot gets understood at that moment.”
Okay, but that perspective swap… The choice of words is interesting.
Olsen almost makes it sound as if we’ll be stepping outside the scope of Wanda and Vision. Is she perhaps alluding to revealing more about what goes on in the real world in relation to Westview? Or, are we perhaps going to see WandaVision telling its story from SWORD’s side?
Is Vision really back from the dead, or is he merely a figment of Wanda’s imagination?
And what exactly is Rambeau’s role in all of this? Was she trapped there with Wanda and Vision, or was she sent in by SWORD?
At least we only have to wait a few more days to see if WandaVision answers any of these questions. The 4th episode will hit Disney+ on Friday, January 29 at 3:01 am ET (12:01 am PT).
