Between touchdowns and The Weeknd’s halftime show, Super Bowl viewers were treated to a variety of star-studded commercials. I mean, half the fun is tuning in for the ads, right?
It wasn’t all Cheetos and Bud Light Seltzer, though. Among all the ads were also trailers previewing some of the movies (and a few TV series) that we can expect to see in the year ahead. And while the regular night out at the movies hasn’t exactly been a standard practice of late, many of these new releases will hit streaming services — so you can enjoy them from the comfort of home. Hey, you can’t make Weeknd memes for ever.
Marvel is giving another duo their very own show. Coming to Disney+ on March 19, this miniseries reunites Sam Wilson (aka Falcon) and Bucky Barnes (Winter Soldier) in a post-Avengers: Endgame timeline for 6 episodes.
This expertly-animated film from Walt Disney Animation Studios will see a simultaneous release in theaters and on Disney+ (with Premier Access) on March 5. Warrior Raya, voiced by Kelly Marie Tran, sets out to find the last dragon in existence to help protect her people from a looming monster threat.
M. Night Shyamalan is back to give you nightmares again, with his newest psychological thriller since 2019’s Glass. Old is scheduled to hit theaters on July 23. Although not much is known about the movie itself, we do know it’s based on the French graphic novel Sandcastle. The novel follows a group of people who aren’t able to leave a mysterious, secluded beach that is holding dark secrets involving time.
This will be a spinoff from Paramount’s successful series, Yellowstone. The prequel will focus on the Dutton family in the late 19th century, as they head west across the Great Plains toward the last part of “untamed” America. The series will stream on the new service, Paramount+.
Picking up a year after the events of The Silence of the Lambs, this new CBS series will turn the cameras onto Clarice Starling. Rebecca Breeds will revisit the role of the titular FBI agent when it premieres on February 11. The series will offer a deeper dive into the untold story of Clarice, as she returns to the field to pursue murderers and predators.
Bob Odenkirk stars as Hutch, a “nobody” suburban dad, who decides to fight back and finds himself the target of a vengeful drug lord and his cronies. Hitting theaters on April 2, it’s an action-packed film directed by Russian Filmmaker Ilya Naishuller (Hardcore Henry).
The sequel to 1988’s Coming to America, this film sees the return of former Prince Akeem (Eddie Murphy). Akeem is set to become King of Zamunda, when he learns he has a long-lost son in the U.S. Akeem and Semmi (Arsenio Hall) will set off to America once again when Coming 2 America releases digitally March 5 on Prime Video.
I guess there’s still some gas left in the tank. On May 28, the latest chapter in the super-long-running franchise Fast & Furious will hit theaters. We’ll still see the usual faces: Dom (Vin Diesel), Letty (Michelle Rodriguez), Roman (Tyrese Gibson), and Tej (Ludacris). Dom and his crew will join forces to go up against Dom’s forsaken brother, Jakob — played by WWE legend John Cena.
